Research Topic: How glutamate and glutamine regulate plant growth and defense
Research Description:
Our laboratory uses molecular genetics approaches to study how plants sense and respond to
amino acids (glutamate and glutamine). We have discovered that, in addition to being essential
nutrients for plant growth, glutamate and glutamine can also enhance plant immune responses.
We welcome postdoctoral researchers with independent research capabilities to join us in
exploring the novel functions of amino acids in plants.
All postdoctoral researchers are welcome to take the research topics, materials, and any other
related projects they worked on during their time in our lab to continue developing them in the
next stage of their academic careers, such as in faculty or independent research positions.

The laboratory of Dr. Ting-Ying Wu at the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology (IPMB), Academia Sinica, invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant position.
The laboratory is located on the main campus of Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. IPMB is home to nearly 300 researchers and staff members from Taiwan and more than 15 other countries. The institute provides state-of-the-art core facilities in cell biology, microscopy, high-performance computing, and multi-omics analysis, offering an excellent environment for interdisciplinary research.
The successful candidate will participate in research on plant–environment interactions. Using plant systems including Marchantia, Arabidopsis, and potentially soybean, the project will investigate the physiological and molecular responses of plants to heat stress and environmental changes associated with global warming. The research will also explore how environmental changes affect circadian clock regulation in high-altitude crops.
Primary responsibilities include molecular cloning, protein expression analysis, and mutant screening.
This research project will be conducted in collaboration with the research groups of Dr. Ive De Smet and Dr. Devang Mehta in Belgium.

The major research interests in the LAI lab are to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying how bacterial pathogens deploy protein secretion systems for survival at its ecological niche and successful infection inside the plant host. We study the mechanistic and biological insights of the two major protein secretion nanomachines, type IV and type VI secretion systems (T4SS and T6SS), in Agrobacterium tumefaciens, the causal agent of crown gall disease and powerful gene transfer tool. We also aim to identify novel agrobacterial and plant genes critical for plant transformation and gene editing. The knowledge may provide new insights to improve Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation and translational applications in biomedicine and/or agriculture.

The Research Assistant will work with a senior Ph.D. student or a postdoc to carry out a two-year research grant to study the antibacterial T6SS with focuses to investigate the T6SS evolution and assembly mechanisms.

The LAI lab provides the research environments and expertise on studies of protein secretion and pathogen-plant interactions using various tools including genetics/genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry/proteomics, and cell biology. The research may expand to study structural aspects of T6SS-assocaited protein complex using X-ray crystallography and cryoEM. The postdoc is also encouraged to develop an independent project and will be trained to serve as a mentor toward an independent investigator. The LAI lab is also active in international collaborations, which will bring opportunities for abroad training.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Family Change and Low Fertility in East Asia
The Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join a research program on family change, partnership formation, and low fertility in Taiwan and East Asia over a 2-year period (with renewal possibility). The position offers opportunities to develop independent publications within the broad themes of the project. The position involves no teaching load and also provides mentorship toward publication in leading journals. The position is particularly suitable for early-career researchers seeking to establish an independent publication record in family demography and population studies.

The research program seeks to understand how contemporary demographic change—including delayed partnership formation, rising singlehood, marriage, cohabitation, changing gender relations, persistent low fertility, birth outcomes, and social inequalities—is reshaping family life in Taiwan and East Asia. Through nationally representative survey data and comparative research, we aim to contribute to broader theoretical debates on family change, inequality, and demographic transformation.

Research themes
•singlehood and unpartnered adults;
•partnership formation and marriage;
•fertility intentions;
•gender, values, and family change;
•inequality in low-fertility societies;
•Taiwan and comparative East Asian demography.

Responsibilities
•develop independent and collaborative research papers;
•analyze survey and/or register-based demographic data;
•contribute to international journal manuscripts;
•participate in workshops, conferences, and cross-country research meetings;
•help strengthen the broader research program.
