Molecular Mechanisms of Genome Stability

The Liang Laboratory at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica, investigates the molecular mechanisms that preserve genome integrity during DNA replication and DNA repair. We combine structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology and functional genomics using state-of-the-art experimental approaches to understand how cells respond to replication stress, repair damaged DNA and maintain chromosome integrity. Our goal is to uncover fundamental mechanisms of genome maintenance while identifying new therapeutic opportunities for cancer.
Current research areas include:
• Break-induced replication (BIR)
• Holliday junction processing
• DNA replication stress
• Alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT)

Why Join the Liang Laboratory?

Members of the Liang Laboratory will have the opportunity to:
• investigate fundamental questions in genome stability with broad implications for human health and disease
• develop expertise across structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and functional genomics
• receive close scientific mentorship while developing independence and leading their own research projects
• collaborate with leading researchers in Taiwan and internationally
• present their work at international conferences and publish in leading international journals
We are committed to fostering an open, collaborative and supportive research environment where members are encouraged to think critically, develop their own ideas and grow into independent scientists.

Academia Sinica, Taiwan, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB). The initial appointment is for a period of three years and is renewable for a second term; if necessary for reasons of academic development and upon approval by the President of Academia Sinica, the Director may serve a third term. The position carries the title of Research Fellow or Distinguished Research Fellow (equivalent to Professor or Distinguished Professor).

As the pre-eminent academic institution in Taiwan, Academia Sinica is devoted to basic and applied research in mathematics and physical sciences, life sciences, and humanities and social sciences. IMB, comprising 30 faculty members, conducts fundamental research to advance the understanding of biological processes at the molecular, cellular, and organismal levels. Research at IMB spans diverse and interconnected areas of contemporary biology, integrating molecular, structural, imaging, and systems approaches to investigate complex biological questions. IMB is well funded and equipped with modern research facilities. It maintains a high research standard with an excellent publication record.
