The Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica (BRCAS; https://biodiv.tw/index.php?lang=en), Taipei, Taiwan invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Research Fellow (equivalent to “assistant professor” at universities) level or above in the field of marine ecology and biodiversity to strengthen the research at the Green Island Marine Research Station. Our preferred fields are coral ecology and diversity. Outstanding applicants in other fields of marine biology are also welcome. Applicants who can frequently work at the Green Island Marine Research Station and conduct marine ecology and biodiversity research mainly in Green Island will have priority in consideration. Green Island is a coral reef island in the eastern waters of Taiwan and BRCAS has a marine station there, which provides strong support in SCUBA diving for research.
Academia Sinica is the top national research institute in Taiwan and provides good start-up funding and substantial internal support for new PIs. BRCAS consists of four divisions: Marine biodiversity and ecosystems, Terrestrial biodiversity and ecosystems, Evolutionary genetics and genomics, and Microbial diversity and Bioinformatics. BRCAS is not only equipped with modern research facilities but also houses an excellent zoological and botanical collection in the Biodiversity Research Museum and manages the Green Island Marine Research Station.

研究方向:探索老化免疫疾病的免疫療法與植物藥應用之潛能 與探索腫瘤相關醣蛋白以及其如何與髓系免疫細胞相互作用

Research focusing:
To address the pathological role of the sialylation on tumor-associated glycoprotein and how they interact with myeloid cells. Besides, exploration of potential phytomedicines or immunotherapy for aging-related immune senescence.
1. Processing primary animal tissue, animal experiments, cell culture, and general lab techniques
2. Engage in appropriate and available technologies/platforms to facilitate the progress of project. Presentation of project results to internal and external parties.

Salary will be offered on the basis of the qualifications and experience under Academia Sinica‘s scale 。
The year-end bonus is 1.5 month.
Work performance will be evaluated for future promotion/justification for salary increase, accordingly.

Candidates:
1. Graduated in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, pharmacology or other related fields.

Applications are invited to apply for multiple tenure-track positions at Assistant Research Fellow level (equivalent to Assistant Professor) or Associate Research Fellow level (equivalent to Associate Professor) in AS-BCST. The successful candidates are expected to develop a rigorous research program in the thematic research fields of agricultural biotechnology related to metabolic engineering and synthetic biology.

The AS-BCST located in Tainan was established to cultivate a multidisciplinary research approach, bringing innovations and techniques to advance biotechnology that helps solve agricultural problems and fosters development of Bio-agriculture industry in Taiwan. The current research programs focus on crop genomics & microbiota, functional small molecules, molecular breeding for important agricultural traits, adaptive strategies in response to environmental changes, and other mission-oriented basic research.

本實驗室的研究重點為研究與傳染病、癌症及神經退化疾病相關的細胞表面醣化反應和功能,及對免疫系統之影響,進而發展治療藥物及方法。/ Our lab is focused on development of new methods and tools for making and studying carbohydrates and glycoproteins related to infectious diseases, cancers, and neurodegenerative disorders. Our goals are to use the methods to understand the roles of glycosylation in biology and to develop new medicines to target diseases associated with biological glycosylation and carbohydrate-mediated recognition.

【工作內容 / Responsibilities】
本實驗室的研究重點為傳染病及癌症新藥研發,利用結構生物學的技術(X光結晶學,低溫電子顯微鏡)探討新冠肺炎,流感,抗藥性細菌感染以及癌細胞之膜蛋白及醣蛋白結構,作為新藥研發的基礎。
1.藉由分析蛋白質的立體空間結構,作為新藥設計的基礎。
2.運用細胞及動物實驗模型,探討新型藥物之廣度及效能。
My lab foucuses on structural biology and drug discovery in infectious diseases and cancers. X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM are being used to study membrane proteins and glycoproteins in SARS-COV-2, influenza viruses, drug-resistant bacteria and cancers, to provide structural basis for drug-discovery and vaccine design. In vitro cell based assays and in vivo animal models are being used to validate the efficacy of novel vaccines.

Primary responsibility: Handling administrative affairs
Secondary responsibility: Coworking on a research paper(s) - Working with Dr. Yoo to solve and estimate a class of dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models with non-rational expectations. The topic and the modeling methods can vary depending on the mutual interests of the candidate and Dr. Yoo, but the ideal candidate should be familiar with (or willing to learn about) the literature on business cycles, information frictions, and behavioral macroeconomics.
