Unveil New Clinical Applications of Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Quantification
Date: 2025-10-13
A joint team from GRC, Academia Sinica and NTUH achieved key breakthroughs in chronic hepatitis B research, publishing in Gut and Hepatology. Using the ERADICATE-B and REVEAL-HBV cohorts, directed by Prof. Jia-Horng Kao and Academician Chien-Jen Chen, respectively, they showed that inactive patients with HBsAg <100 IU/mL have minimal liver cancer risk, close to functional cure. They also found that immune-tolerant patients with HBsAg ≥10,000 IU/mL develop liver cancer more slowly, helping define low-risk groups. The studies were jointly supervised by Prof. Kao and Dr. Hwai-I Yang in GRC, providing key evidence for guiding global surveillance and treatment strategies.
