- Objectives
Academia Sinica’s missions include enhancing the international competitiveness of its TIGP program, cultivating research talent, and rewarding Ph.D. students in this program who achieve outstanding research work. The programs and regulations below have been established to promote this end. - Eligibility
Full-time TIGP Ph.D. candidates or students who have passed their qualifying exams with distinction are eligible to apply. During the award period, advisors and/or co-advisors must provide at least NT$34,000 per month. - Fellowship Amounts
- Presidential Fellowship awardees can receive an additional NT$16,000 per month for one year.
- Research Performance Fellowship awardees can receive an additional NT$6,000 per month for one year.
The above awards should be calculated for each fiscal year (January to December).
The Presidential Fellowship awardees are exempt from the limitations specified in the Academia Sinica Fellowship Regulations regarding the total monthly fellowship amount.
- Number of Awardees
- Presidential Fellowship: In principle, the number of Presidential Fellowship shall not exceed 1% of the total number of students who meet the eligibility requirements specified in Article 2.
- Research Performance Fellowship: In principle, the number of Research Performance Fellowship shall not exceed 10% of the total number of students who meet the eligibility requirements specified in Article 2.
The number of awardees allocated to each TIGP program shall be determined by the Department of International Affairs (DIA).
- Application and Approval Procedure
Applicants must submit their applications according to the schedule announced by their affiliated program. Each program shall review applications and submit its recommended list of Research Performance Fellowship candidates to Academia Sinica for approval no later than October 31 each year (or the next working day if this date falls on a holiday). - Selection Procedure
- Each program’s review must include an oral presentation by the applicant on their research results, followed by a Q&A session with the review committee. The review may be conducted in person or online.
- Each program must submit meeting minutes of the review to Academia Sinica for approval. The minutes must include the following information:
- A list of attendees, including review committee members;
- A summary of the applicant’s oral presentation and Q&A session;
- The names and research topics of the selected awardees;
- Specific review comments for each awardee.
- Based on the number of awards approved by the DIA, each program shall submit its recommended list of Research Performance Fellowship awardees. The top-ranked candidate from each program shall be regarded as its Presidential Fellowship Award nominee.
- Upon the approval of the Research Performance Fellowship awardee list, the DIA and the Central Academic Advisory Committee shall jointly select the final Presidential Fellowship awardees from among the program nominees.
- Suspension of Fellowship
If an awardee leaves the TIGP program due to graduation, dropping out, or temporary leave of absence, his or her fellowship will be suspended from the day of the event. The awardee may receive the rest of the fellowship upon resuming the program and with the approval of Academia Sinica. - Ethical Conduct
Should an awardee be involved in a violation of academic ethics, his or her case will be processed according to the “Code of Ethics for Academia Sinica Research Fellows and Research Specialists.”
