Academia Sinica and the National University of Science and Technology (NU), Oman, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 16, 2026, establishing a framework for academic exchange and research collaboration between Taiwan and Oman.
The agreement was signed by Academia Sinica President James C. Liao and NU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ali Al Bimani. Established in 2018 and based in Muscat, NU is a private, multi-campus university specializing in engineering, medicine, pharmacy, maritime studies, and advanced technology.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will explore joint research initiatives, with an initial focus on emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and biotechnology. The partnership also outlines provisions for academic exchanges, including guest lectures, conferences, and workshops, as well as exchange programs for students, researchers, and administrative staff.
Additionally, the framework opens up potential cooperation in developing undergraduate and postgraduate academic pathways, including assistantship opportunities for NU students, institutional quality assurance benchmarking, and the sharing of educational resources.
The signing of the MoU marks an important step in developing closer academic relations between the two institutions. Moving forward, Academia Sinica and NU intend to work closely to translate this framework into specific collaborative programs and long-term institutional ties.
