Congratulations to Dr. Liang-Yan Hsu on Receiving the 2024 Emerging Investigator Best Paper Award from The Journal of Chemical Physics

Date: 2025-09-17

Dr. Liang-Yan Hsu, Research Fellow at the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences (IAMS), Academia Sinica, has been awarded the 2024 Emerging Investigator Best Paper Award in the theory category by The Journal of Chemical Physics (JCP). Dr. Hsu’s award-winning paper is titled “Generalized Born–Huang expansion under macroscopic quantum electrodynamics framework.”

Since returning to Taiwan in 2017, Dr. Hsu has been dedicated to advancing research in theoretical chemistry and chemical physics at IAMS. He and his research team integrates classical chemical theories with macroscopic quantum electrodynamics to develop theoretical frameworks that embed quantized photon fields and dielectric responses into molecular systems. These efforts have provided significant theoretical insights into frontier topics such as polariton chemistry, plasmonic chemistry, and vacuum-field-modulated charge transfer.

The Journal of Chemical Physics, published by the American Institute of Physics, is one of the most influential international journals in theoretical chemistry, chemical physics, and physical chemistry. Since 2019, JCP has established the Emerging Investigator Best Paper Award to recognize young scholars within ten years of receiving their Ph.D. who have published outstanding work in the journal. Each year, only two recipients are selected. Notably, Dr. Hsu is the first scientist from East Asia to receive this award since its establishment.
