Dr. Hui Si Kwok joined the Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica, as an Assistant Research Fellow in January 2026. She obtained her PhD in Cancer Biology from the National University of Singapore and completed postdoctoral training at Yale University and Harvard University.
Her research seeks to understand how histones and chromatin regulators control gene expression and cell identity. Using mutational and functional genomics approaches, she investigates the mechanisms by which aberrant chromatin states contribute to disease. Her goal is to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities and translate these discoveries into new cancer therapies.
Q&A
Q: How would you describe your research in one sentence?
A: Proteins are the cell's molecular machines. I study them by systematically changing their parts, much like an engineer disassembling and rebuilding a machine to understand how it works and how to fix it when it fails.
Q: What is the most memorable story from your research career?
A: The most memorable moments in research are the "eureka" moments. The excitement of discovering something new is what makes science so rewarding.
Q: What message would you choose to display on your office wall?
A: Keep exploring. Keep asking questions. Curiosity is the fuel that drives science forward.
