I grew up in a family of scholars. I wanted to be an archaeologist as a kid, yet developed a stronger interest in natural science later. When I was at the age of college entrance exam, my preference was majoring Physics, but the exam brought me to Chemistry major. However, because of this I probably did not miss the fascinating Organic Chemistry. I encountered Azulene during my undergrad years and realized how diverse, dynamic, and interesting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are. During the following years of my PhD study and postdoc periods in Mainz and Aachen, Germany, Abu Dhabi, UAE and Okinawa, Japan, I have been always studying aromatic systems. Currently, my group is focusing on synthesizing defected nanographene based on azulene, switchable conjugated molecular system, and controlling molecular chirality.
