As global competition for scientific research continues to intensify, cultivating the next generation of talents has become a strategic national priority. Academia Sinica today joined the Ministry of Education, National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and National Cheng Kung University to inaugurate the Preparatory Office of the National Taiwan Science Experimental Senior High School and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The partnership is Taiwan's first collaborative platform linking senior high school education, universities, and a national research institution to foster future scientists.

Academia Sinica President Chen Chien-Jen expressed that alongside advancing world-class fundamental research and knowledge innovation, Academia Sinica has long regarded the cultivation of young scientific talent as one of its core missions.

“Scientific breakthroughs are built upon perseverance and the courage to explore the unknown. By introducing students to systematic research methods at an earlier stage, we can help them develop scientific reasoning and independent thinking from a young age. We hope the academic community will work together to foster an open, innovative learning environment.” President Chen said.

Under the partnership, Academia Sinica and the four universities will jointly establish a research-oriented talent development framework, providing research mentorship, laboratory training, project-based learning, academic exchanges, and shared research resources. Drawing on Academia Sinica's interdisciplinary strengths, the initiative will enable senior high school students to engage with frontier research topics at an early stage.

“Science education is not simply about imparting knowledge,” President Chen added. “It is about nurturing curiosity, a passion for seeking truth, and the resilience to continue searching for answers despite setbacks. Cultivating outstanding researchers is a long-term endeavor requiring sustained collaboration between the education and research communities.”

For many years, Academia Sinica has promoted scientific talent development through initiatives including the Biological Program for Selected Senior High School Students, the International Summer Internship Program, the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP), postdoctoral training, and international academic collaborations. It also advances public engagement through the Science Day for Kids, Open House events, and the Academia Sinica Popular Science Lectures.

Participation in the National Taiwan Science Experimental Senior High School initiative represents a significant extension of Academia Sinica's long-standing commitment to scientific talent development and marks an important milestone in strengthening Taiwan's research talent pipeline.

Academia Sinica will continue working closely with the Ministry of Education and its university partners to establish a seamless research training pathway, ensuring that Taiwan continues to cultivate future researchers capable of addressing global scientific challenges and advancing knowledge innovation.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Academia Sinica President Chen Chien-Jen, representatives of the Ministry of Education, National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and National Cheng Kung University, together with distinguished guests from Taiwan's academic and research communities.
