Abstract
When materials are subjected to different pressure and temperature conditions, they will respond to various degrees of elastic or plastic deformation. In addition, their physical, electronic and optical properties will be also affected. Synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy and diffraction, together with high-temperature heating provide users invaluable opportunities to investigate materials under extreme conditions and also bring unexpected challenges to be resolved. In this talk, I will present materials exhibited unusual behaviors under compression and several new findings indeed lead to important explanations that help answer materials’ structural and optical changes under extreme conditions.
