Description:
The Institute of History and Philology is pleased to host the Asian Federation of Mediterranean Studies Institutes' IV Biennial International Conference at Academia Sinica, Taiwan on March 18-19, 2024.  The meeting is sponsored by The Mediterranean Seminar, Spain-North Africa Project, and UCLA CMRS Center for Early Global Studies.  It is co-sponsored by the Institute of History and Philology, IHP World History Research Unit, IHP History Department, Taiwan National Science and Technology Council, and the Taiwan Studies Program at University of Alberta.

The conference's theme examines "Spaces of Familiarity, Spaces of Difference in the Mediterranean" from ancient Greece to the contemporary Middle East via more than fifteen disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and applied sciences.  Taking place in Taiwan, this exploration of space also globalizes Mediterranean studies by including links between eastern Asia and the Mediterranean as well as perspectives developed by an international mix of 50+ scholars from East-Southeast-West Asia in conjunction with researchers from Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America.
