Date: 2024-04-22

On March 28, 2024, Academia Sinica held an inauguration ceremony for the Research Center for Critical Issues (RCCI) on South Campus. Established in January 2024 as the 33rd research unit and the second cross-disciplinary Research Center of Academia Sinica, RCCI is dedicated to addressing major challenges in the nation and society with research achievements  and proposing innovative solutions to critical issues.

The inauguration ceremony was held on the first day of the 2024 Academia Sinica Strategy Planning Meeting, attracting over 80 researchers to attend. Academician Ming-Che Shih, who was responsible for the planning and construction of the South Campus since 2012, was also invited to participate in the inauguration ceremony. President Liao, Vice President Chou, Vice President Tang and other administrative officers also joined the inauguration ceremony.

Research facilities and a cleanroom will be established on the South Campus to facilitate research in Net-Zero Technology and Quantum Technology. The Net-Zero Technology domain includes the Thematic Center for Marine Energy and the Next-Generation Solar Cell Research Project. The Quantum Technology domain includes the Thematic Center for Quantum Computer and the Quantum Photonics Research Project. All laboratories except the cleanroom will be renovated by the end of May 2024, and will commence operations after the installation and testing of the equipment. Academia Sinica expects the research achievements at RCCI to bring about significant breakthroughs in the related fields.
