The 6th Academia Sinica Scholarly Monograph Award ceremony was held today in the Multimedia Presentation Room, Administration Building, Academia Sinica. The recipients each received a medal and a cash prize of NT$600,000.

Hsiao-hung Chang is Distinguished Professor of Foreign Languages and Literature at National Taiwan University. She got her Ph.D. in English from University of Michigan in 1990. In Fashioning Modernity, vivid and concrete sartorial cases are analyzed in details, including the queue, the lotus feet, the magazine cover of fashionable women, women’s dress reform, cheongsam as one-piece dress, and so on, to articulate fashion, gender and modernity.

The research achievements not only contribute to the study of the history of Buddhism in China and socio-cultural history, but also have high reference value for those who study Buddhist history and religious history in other regions.

This year, a total of 40 applications for the award were received from a wide range of fields. All submissions underwent a stringent review procedure of the highest standard. During the ceremony, the two winners briefly presented their winning monographs. The ceremony was hosted by Vice President Chin-Shing Huang.
