In May 2018, Yu-Shan Wu, Academician from the Institute of Political Science at Academia Sinica, received an award at National Central University’s first annual Luo Jialun Lectures.
In 2016, Dr. Wu was elected as Academician at Academia Sinica. His specialty is cross-straits relations and research on political transition in socialist countries. His research area includes Taiwan, China, Eastern Europe, and Russia. Academician Wu received the Excellent Teaching Award at National Taiwan University five times, the Ministry of Education’s Academic Award one time, the National Science Council’s Class A Research Award four times, and the National Science Council’s Outstanding Research Award three times. His accomplishments are outstanding.
Luo Jialun was a famous educator and historian. He was the one who coined the May Fourth Movement, and also the student leader of this movement. Luo Jialun’s daughter Professor Luo Jiuhua inherited her father’s selflessness and macroscopic vision. She has donated scholarships to help students. She created the Luo Jialun Lectures at National Central University to reward outstanding scholars in humanities and social sciences for their long-term commitment to and participation in academic research.
In addition, on June 8, Academician Wu will give a speech on how domestic political competition affects cross-strait relations at the 2018 Symposium of the Newly Elected Academicians. Everyone is welcome to come to the event and listen to his talk.
