In this lecture, Dr. James Boyce will explain why carbon fees and dividends can make carbon pricing both socially just and politically durable by turning the antagonist, i.e., the general public, of carbon fees or taxes into strong supporters of the urgently needed reform. Based on the principle that the gifts of nature belong not to corporations or governments but us all, carbon fees and dividends will reset the relationship among the economy, the energy system, the people, and nature. The VOC dispatched a fleet to attack Macao, occupied Pescadores and thus dragged it into the commercial and military rivalry of the Spaniards, Portuguese and Dutch. The termination of this action inaugurated a shared history of Taiwan and Pescadores. Thereafter, Taiwan slowly stepped into an Era with state governance. An international conference will be held to commemorate its 400th anniversary.
