Guidelines for the Academia Sinica Biotechnology Research Park Translational (BRPT) Project
Approved on October 17, 2023
- Academia Sinica (AS) has established these Guidelines to support innovative translational medical research, initiate a task-oriented Biotechnology Research Park Translational Project (the Project), and provide funding to both AS research teams and outstanding research teams nationwide and facilitate translational research with commercialization potential.
- Approved Project principal investigators (Project PIs) who are researchers from outside AS must be jointly appointed to the Biomedical Translation Research Center of AS and be stationed at the National Biotechnology Research Park in accordance with relevant regulations.
- The Project PIs must meet one of the following qualifications:
- A full-time researcher with the rank of Assistant Research Fellow or Assistant Research Specialist or above at AS.
- A full-time researcher with an equivalent rank at domestic public or private universities or domestic academic institutions.
- A doctoral-level researcher at AS (including postdoctoral scholars).
- The Project is an individual research project, with an execution period of one to three years, in principle. Funding is reviewed and allocated annually on the basis of the needs, progress, and outcomes of the research project. AS Project PIs (non-jointly appointed) may apply for a two-year extension on the basis of the needs and progress of the research.
- To apply for the Project, the applicant’s host unit should submit the following documents to AS:
- Research proposal.
- Applicant’s curriculum vitae and list of recent publications.
- The Project is overseen by a Biotechnology Research Park Translational Project Review Committee, established by AS. The committee considers reviews from relevant domestic and international scholars and experts, convenes review meetings, and ultimately decides the list of approved projects at the final review meeting.
- A Project Execution Agreement should be submitted prior to commencing a project. Project execution and evaluation should be processed in accordance with the Agreement.
- In cases where the Project PI is found to be in violation of academic ethics or conflict of interest regulations, the Code of Ethics for Academia Sinica Research Fellows and Research Specialists will apply.
