Guidelines for Implementing Research Ethics Education and Training at Academia Sinica

  • The following Guidelines have been established to promote research ethics proficiency and enhance scholarly quality at Academia Sinica.
  • These Guidelines apply to all AS researchers, including research fellows, research specialists, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and research assistants.
  • AS researchers should comply with the following requirements for research ethics training:
    • AS researchers executing National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) funded research projects must comply with the rules stipulated in the Operation Guidelines for NSTC Research Project Grants.
    • AS researchers involved in AS funded research projects must meet the minimum requirement of one hour of research ethics training every three years. Such training must be completed within six months of the project’s inception. For projects shorter than six months, researchers must complete training prior to the project expiration date.
    • AS researchers should follow relevant rules on research ethics credits stipulated by other funding agencies if applicable.
  • AS researchers may choose from the following options to complete research ethics training and receive a certificate:
    • Research ethics courses offered by AS;
    • On-line courses offered by the Center for Taiwan Academic Research Ethics Education;
    • Other certified domestic or international online courses on research ethics;
    • Domestic or international workshops or symposiums on research ethics.
