Guidelines for the Academia Sinica Presidential Scholars Program

Promulgated by Academic Affairs Document No. 1100501537 on March 3, 2021

  • These Guidelines have been established for review procedures for the Presidential Scholars Program, based on Article 14-1 of the Guidelines for Academic Research Award Payments.
  • Grants are awarded based on applications. Applicants who meet the qualifications specified in Article 14-1 of the Guidelines for Academic Research Award Payments may submit applications. Applicants’ unpublished research results that have passed journal or publisher review during the application year may be listed as research accomplishments (with supporting documents attached).
  • Peer review will focus on applicants’ research accomplishments during the past five years, faculty service at Academia Sinica, and other contributions.
  • Each of AS’ three Divisions should form a review committee chaired by its respective Vice President and consisting of leading experts and scholars. Each review committee should provide a list of recommended candidates, with the first part of the list being prioritized candidates.
  • The number of prioritized candidates from a Division may not exceed 20% of its eligible applicants for the application year. The remaining candidates on the list should be ranked, with the number not exceeding 20% of that Division’s eligible applicants for the application year.
  • The prioritized lists should be approved by a joint review committee formed by the three Divisions. The remaining candidates on the list will be reviewed and approved based on the aforementioned criteria, competitiveness during the application year, and other factors. In reviewing the other candidates, the remaining quota of accepted applications for each Division should not be taken into consideration.
  • These Guidelines and amendments thereof have been approved by the General Assembly, and approved and promulgated by the Academia Sinica President.
