- The Academia Sinica (AS) Career Development Award (CDA) has been established to recruit and encourage young scholars with excellent research results and outstanding scholarly potential to engage in innovative and internationally competitive research projects, thereby cultivating and promoting world-class academic talent. These Guidelines have been established to promote this end.
- The eligibility criteria for CDA projects are as follows:
- AS full-time Assistant Research Fellows or newly recruited non-tenured Associate Research Fellows.
- Candidates for the positions of Assistant Research Fellow or non-tenured Associate Research Fellows whose appointments are under review by Divisional Appointment and Promotion Committees.
- CDA projects are Individual Research Projects for a period of five years.
- The CDA is made on a referral basis, with qualified candidates nominated by their respective Institute Directors and approved by their Institute Council, Preparatory Office Council or Research Center Council. The referring unit should submit the following documents to AS:
- Letter of referral
- Minutes of the Institute Council (Preparatory Office Council) or Research Center Council
- Research proposal
- Applicant's curriculum vitae and list of recent publications
- Representative publications
- AS has established review committees for each of its three Divisions: Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Division of Life Sciences, and Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. Committee members will consult reports by experts in relevant fields and hold review meetings. The final list for each Division will be approved during a joint meeting of all three committees.
Research faculty will be considered CDA awardees per se if they have relinquished the chance to carry out young scholar grants from the National Science and Technology Council or the Ministry of Education due to having passed divisional appointment review. The referral procedures described in the preceding paragraph will not be required. - The home Institute (Preparatory Office) or Research Center should provide 50% of total funding.
- A Project Execution Agreement should be submitted prior to commencing a project. Project execution and evaluation should be processed in accordance with the Agreement.
- In cases where the Project Principal Investigator is found to be in violation of academic ethics or conflict of interest regulations, the "Code of Ethics for Academia Sinica Research Fellows and Research Specialists" will apply.
