This workshop aims to integrate the expertise and experience of research teams from Taiwan and Japan, inviting experts and scholars in taxonomy, systematics, and ecological restoration to conduct diving surveys, specimen comparisons, and results discussions. Through academic exchange and field collaboration, it seeks to establish cross-regional reef-building coral classification standards and data-sharing mechanisms, laying a common scientific foundation for coral conservation and restoration in East Asia, and cultivating a new generation of coral classification and restoration specialists.
Date: Jun. 22 (Mon.) & Jun. 26 (Fri.), 2026
Time: 9:00AM – 6:00PM (06/22), 9:30AM – 12:00PM (06/26)
Venue: B106, Interdisciplinary Research Building for Science and Technology, Academia Sinica
(128 Academia Road, Sec. 2, Nangang, Taipei, Taiwan)
Registration Deadline: Limited to 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
Scholars and researchers interested in long-term coral reef ecology, coral taxonomy, systematics, and ecological restoration are welcome to participate.
Recent molecular phylogenetic and genomic studies have revealed that many morphologically similar corals belong to different cryptic species, and their evolutionary and ecological differences profoundly influence restoration and conservation strategies. If the taxonomic basis is unclear, restoration efforts may lead to incorrect species identification and inappropriate habitat allocation. Accurate taxonomic identification is the primary prerequisite for effective restoration efforts.
Seats are limited, so early registration is highly recommended!
