Brief:
This presentation answers how places of worship serve as a means for undocumented migrants to alleviate their longing for Indonesia. Places of worship provide a sense of home for undocumented migrants without leaving the United States of America. This research uses interview and participation observation methods from 2014-2024 in EstCo Mosque and WesCo Church (anonymous names). Through the spatial theory, these sanctuaries facilitate a sense of return home for undocumented migrants. The study concludes that sanctuaries have served as homes for Indonesian undocumented migrants in the US to return "home" through religious rites, material cultures, a sonic sphere, and a sense of belonging.
