Dr. Liu Ming-Jung, Associate Research Fellow at Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center, receives the 2024 Most Promising Young Scientist Award. Dr. Liu has been studying how translation is controlled, especially on uncovering non-canonical translation initiation sites and exploring hidden protein coding genes and their functionality. Dr. Liu not only obtained pioneering results that provided novel understanding in viral infections and plant defenses, but also further unraveled the biological importance of these hidden genes in the context of plant-virus interactions.
These awards recognize female scientists for their efforts and contributions. Each year, three Taiwan Outstanding Women in Science awards are given: the Outstanding Award, the Most Promising Young Scientist Award and the Men Cuei-Zhu Scholarship for Ph. D. Students. In the year of 2024, these awards are targeted to women working in the field of life science.
