Academia Sinica is committed to creating a welcoming environment for international residents. Recognizing the growing Muslim community on campus, Academia Sinica identified the need for a suitable space where a larger number of Muslim students and employees can pray together. President James Liao acknowledged the importance of meeting the needs of the Muslim community and directed the Department of International Affairs and the Department of General Affairs to form a working team. After conducting extensive surveys across various campus units, an independent building near Academia Sinica was identified as the perfect location for a Muslim Prayer Room.
The Opening Ceremony of the Muslim Prayer Room took place on April 19, 2024. Secretary-General Shin-kun Peng, on behalf of Academia Sinica, delivered the opening speech. Representatives from Taipei Grand Mosque, Saudi Arabian Trade Office, Turkish Trade Office in Taipei, Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, Taipei, Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei and Commercial Office of the Sultanate of Oman-Taiwan all attended the Opening Ceremony and the Eid Celebration.
Academia Sinica is delighted to provide the Muslim community at Academia Sinica with a brand-new prayer space, allowing believers a dedicated area for prayer while pursuing their studies.
