Valérie Schini-Kerth earned her PhD at the University of Strasbourg (University Louis Pasteur), France. She completed postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota) and held positions as an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Texas) and as a research and teaching fellow at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main (Germany). Since 2000, she has been Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Strasbourg University. In January 2024, she was appointed director of the Translational Cardiovascular Medicine research department. Her primary research interest lies in the pivotal role of the endothelium in vascular homeostasis in health and disease, with a focus on mechanisms such as low-grade inflammation contributing to endothelial dysfunction associated with aging and major cardiovascular risk factors like hypertension and diabetes. A key theme is premature endothelial senescence and its role in the initiation and progression of endothelial dysfunction, leading to pro-oxidant, pro-inflammatory, pro-atherosclerotic, and pro-remodeling responses. She also investigates pharmacological approaches to promote vascular health by drugs such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists, as well as natural products including omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and anthocyanin-rich products. Experimental models include cultured endothelial cells, isolated conductance and resistance arteries, in vivo cardiovascular disease models, and translational approaches. She has published more than 250 original papers. She also holds the Chair of the Natural Products Section of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR)
