Professor Lodish is a distinguished professor at MIT and founding member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. He is the lead author of the textbook "Molecular Cell Biology," which is a classic in university education and has been translated into 13 languages. Since being elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1987, Prof. Lodish has published over 500 international journal articles and received numerous international awards and honors. Besides academic excellence, Prof. Lodish has founded and advised 14 biotech companies, including Genzyme (acquired by Sanofi for US$20 billion in 2011), Millennium Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Takeda for US$8.8 billion in 2008), and Rubius Therapeutics (IPO in 2018). He also co-founded Tevard, which develops novel gene therapies for several genetic brain and muscle disorders, Cerberus to develop protein-based therapeutics and vaccines for autoimmune diseases and several viral infections, and Carmine, which develops gene delivery vehicles using red cell extracellular vesicles.
