Academia Sinica received an alert about an on-campus COVID-19 case from the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on the afternoon of December 9. AS immediately responded by launching its Epidemic Control Task Force to carry out inspections and other relevant actions pursuant to the Academia Sinica COVID-19 Response Procedures for Reports of Confirmed Cases for Buildings and Personnel. Beginning on the evening of December 9, thorough sanitation has been implemented at the Genomics Research Center, and apart from individuals quarantined under Epidemic Outbreak Investigation all colleagues stationed there will work at home. AS will continue to work with the CECC to manage the situation as it develops, and provide all colleagues with necessary assistance and information. For more on the latest pandemic developments, please refer to the CECC’s announcements. AS will complete its investigation report in ten days.
Additionally, Academia Sinica has announced that, beginning on December 10, all indoor venues will be temporarily closed and all in-person meetings with external units will be postponed or held online. AS internal meetings may be held, but only with fewer than 10 people, with proper social distancing and adequate ventilation. In addition, all AS restaurants will only provide take-away services, and if necessary AS colleagues may work at home with approval from their supervisors.
Academia Sinica will undertake a thorough investigation and review all of its biosafety management procedures at the P3 Laboratory, as well as their actual execution and operations. AS will also conduct a detailed investigation about the cause of this incident, in order to ensure safety in all laboratory experiments and protect colleagues’ health.
