Guidelines for the Support of Academia Sinica Retirees

- The “Guidelines for the Support of Academia Sinica Retirees” (hereafter referred to as the “Guidelines”) have been established in order to provide care for AS retirees and help improve their welfare.
- Retirees in these Guidelines refer to Academia Sinica certified staff who have retired in accordance with the Act Governing Retirement, Severance, and Bereavement Compensation for the Teaching and Other Staff Members of Public Schools and the Act Governing Retirement, Severance, and Bereavement Compensation for the Civil Workers.
- Each Academia Sinica unit should assign a contact person to stay in touch with retirees in order to handle the support measures described in these Guidelines.
- Each Academia Sinica unit should establish a database of retirees’ contact information and assign a management person. Each retiree should provide two contact persons and keep this information updated.
- Each Academia Sinica unit may hold farewell parties and give farewell gifts to retirees. Farewell gifts should be given in accordance with relevant Executive Yuan regulations.
- Academia Sinica may issue holiday benefits to retirees on an annual basis during the Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival. Qualifications and criteria for such payments should be handled in accordance with relevant Executive Yuan regulations.
- Retirees may borrow books from Academia Sinica libraries, and should comply with each library’s rules.
- Retirees and their spouses may visit the Academia Sinica Infirmary for treatment, and are entitled to Academia Sinica staff discounts.
- Academia Sinica units should provide extra support to retirees living alone in Taiwan, and conduct visits when necessary. If major incidents occur, retirees should be assisted or referred to relevant social welfare, medical, or police agencies.
- When retirees pass away, Academia Sinica units may send condolences to the bereaved family and assist with funeral arrangements. If the deceased retiree has no family in Taiwan, funeral arrangements will be handled in accordance with the regulations of the Act Governing Retirement, Severance, and Bereavement Compensation for the Teaching and Other Staff Members of Public Schools and the Act Governing Retirement, Severance, and Bereavement Compensation for the Civil Workers.
- All expenses required for handling retirement farewell issues mentioned in Article 5 should be covered by general operating expenses.
- Retired security guards, mechanics, drivers, and janitors at Academia Sinica should be treated in accordance with these Guidelines.
- The Guidelines and amendments thereof have been approved and promulgated by the Academia Sinica President.
