Academician Vigor Yang has been honored with the 2025 Reed Aeronautics Award by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions and groundbreaking innovations in the field of aerospace engineering. Dr. Yang will be presented the award during the AIAA Awards Gala in April in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Yang specializes in aerospace propulsion and power, combustion, and energetics. He has devoted his career to advancing propulsion systems, power technologies, and combustion control. Notably, he assisted NASA in solving issues related to combustion instability in rocket engines. Dr. Yang is also a pivotal figure in advancing aerospace technology in Taiwan.
He was elected Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 2001, Fellow of the AIAA in 2002, and Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society of the United Kingdom in 2010. He was also elected Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in 2015, Academia Sinica Academician in 2016, and Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2023.
Dr. Yang has received numerous prestigious awards throughout his career, including the Worcester Reed Warner Medal from ASME, the Air Breathing Propulsion Award, the Pendray Aerospace Literature Award, the Propellants and Combustion Award, the Von Karman Lectureship in Astronautics from AIAA, the William R. Marshall Award from the Institute for Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Joint Army-Navy-NASA-Air Force (JANNAF) Executive Committee.
The Reed Aeronautics Award, one of the highest honors in the aerospace field, is presented to a single recipient annually. The award recognizes aerospace experts for their exceptional contributions to academic research and technical applications in aeronautics.
