Abstract:

In developing quantum science and technologies, it is vital to demonstrate quantum advantages, which are advantages that can only be achieved by quantum effects. Quantum advantages can greatly benefit various disciplines, promising impacts on faster computation, banking security, better batteries, communication, energy transfer, and drug development, to name a few. Crucially, to achieve quantum advantages, we need to use quantum effects as fuels or, say, resources. For instance, we need to consume entanglement to achieve teleportation. It is thus essential to describe different quantum effects theoretically as quantum resources, so we can know how and where to use them to demonstrate quantum advantages. In this talk, I will briefly review our recent findings in this direction. I will focus on quantum effects of quantum dynamics, the uncertainty principle, many-body entanglement, and their quantum advantages in different settings such as information processing, communication, and thermodynamics.
