Dr. Sung’s research career has been dedicated to making fundamental discoveries in retinal cell biology and developing rationale therapeutics for treating several blinding diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Her research program is known to be dynamic; she utilizes innovative and creative basic science approaches and is committed to promote discovery in clinically important questions.
Dr. Sung also made significant contribution to several basic science research fields, including (i) The biology of the cilia: protein transport, morphogenesis and cell cycle control. (ii) cell polarity, membrane trafficking, and molecular motor.
