The information in this file came from departmental and school listings of faculty research interests, and from other campus publications. Each faculty member was given the opportunity to update his or her listing in late spring 1986. The complete file will be updated each spring. DESCRIPTION: HOMER, the university's computerized online catalogue, contains bibliographic records for most of the holdings of the USC Libraries and may be accessed through USCInfo, the libraries' online campus information service.
The largest of the USC Libraries is the Doheny Memorial Library, with a core collection which covers most fields in the humanities and social sciences. The Doheny Library also houses the Reference Center, College Commons, Doheny Express, and the departments of special collections, government documents and micrographics. In addition to the Doheny Library, the USC Libraries include 17 specialized subject libraries that serve the unique information needs of the campus. Most of these are located near the school or department they serve.
To select a catalog type a number from the Homer menu or the four-letter code (in parentheses) from anywhere in USCInfo and press <RETURN>. Choices 1- 4 are USC's catalog (Homer).

A large variety of software is available for use on Macintosh computers, IBM and IBM- compatible computers running either DOS/Windows or OS/2, and workstations running UNIX or other operating systems. Some of the software has been licensed by Stanford and is available free or for a nominal charge from L&IR, or may be used on computers in the computer clusters on campus. It is maintained by Networking and Communication Services for use by the Stanford community and the University telephone operators.
Students can update information in this file by using the AXESS system in Folio. Faculty and staff can update their personal information in Prism using the Faculty/Staff Directory.
To enter the Stanford Directory, type SELECT Stanford Directory (or choose Stanford Directory from the menu of files shown when you type SELECT). Use the BROWSE NAME command if you are so unsure about an individual's name.

DESCRIPTION: UWIN is a collection of information services such as news, library catalogs, and reference tools available at the University of Washington. No login is required to use the system; to exit, type Q.
If you access UWIN via one of the C&C Uniform Access systems you will be running fully featured UWIN. The Uniform Access systems include machines such as Homer, Carson, Stein, etc. To access the UWIN from these systems, either choose it from the opening menu or type 'uwin' at the system prompt.
If you type 'telnet uwin' you will get a limited version of UWIN. This is true if you telnet to uwin.u.washington.edu from anywhere, and the reason is that your identity is unknown to UWIN under these conditions.
