Academia Sinica held the 18th certificate conferral ceremony for this year’s graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on December 6th, 2023. This year, a total of 49 graduates from 10 countries received their TIGP Certificates from Academia Sinica Vice President Dr. Mei-Yin Chou at the ceremony.
For the graduates who participated in the commencement ceremony, there were 14 from Taiwan, 7 from the Philippines, 7 from India, 6 from Vietnam, 5 from Ethiopia, 4 from Pakistan, 3 from Malaysia, 1 from Egypt, 1 from Nepal, and 1 from Tanzania.
This year’s attendees include 9 graduates from the Nano Science and Technology program; 8 graduates from the Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics program; 5 graduates from the Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology program; 5 graduates from the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience program; 4 graduates from the Biodiversity program, 4 graduates from the Molecular and Biological Agricultural Sciences program, 4 graduates from the Molecular Medicine program, 4 graduates from the Earth System Science Program; 2 graduates each from the Molecular and Cell Biology program and the Molecular Science and Technology program; 1 graduate each from the Bioinformatics program and the Social Networks and Human-Centered Computing program.
Currently, there are 13 Ph.D. programs in TIGP. Including this year’s graduates, a total of 771 students have completed the TIGP program’s rigorous requirements and received TIGP certificates to date. Each year, many students in the programs publish papers in top international scholarly journals, and many alumni go on to take up positions in world-renowned institutions.
Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrates cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics, first-class facilities, top-notch faculty, and a multicultural environment at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the primary language. Currently, the program has 577 students enrolled in thirteen Ph.D. programs, with many students coming from overseas, representing 48 different countries.
TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan’s leading research universities: National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University, National Defense Medical Center, National Taiwan Normal University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chengchi University, and Tunghai University. The certificate is conferred by Academia Sinica, in addition to the diploma awarded by the collaborating university.
