Digital Archives of Chinese Archaeological Data

Based on origin, archaeological objects and related information housed in Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica could be divided into several kinds as follows:

(1) Artifacts, recovered photos, records and files obtained from Yin-hsu excavation, Anyang.
(2) Artifacts, recovered photos, records and files obtained from the excavations of Lung-shan culture, and other Neolithic sites.
(3) Artifacts, recovered photos, records and files obtained from the excavations of Hsin-ts'un cemetery in Hsun-hsien.
(4) Artifacts, recovered photos, records and files obtained from the excavations of Shan-piao-chen and Liu-li-ko cemeteries.
(5) Mortillet's archaeological collection.
(6) Collection, purchase, and donation of Chinese archaeological objects, including more than two hundred bronze artifacts dated from Shang period to Wang-mang period and a few oracle bones.
(7) Artifacts obtained from Taiwan archaeological excavation.

Because the artifacts housed in Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica are mainly from the archaeological excavation conducted in Mainland China and Taiwan, the status of these objects is different from the collection- without -context housed in some museums. The context of artifact could offer more information about the culture of ancient times except the value of artifact itself. As archaeological features could check the complex of ancient people's activity, the information about excavated context should be worthy to be digitized.
