【研究旨趣】
未來我個人或團隊研究的方向都將偏重在區域歷史人類學上。我個人將集中在對於個人認同與人觀中自我的研究，尤其有關於歷史上不同經驗─從前緬甸的殖民經驗，中國的帝國、土司及國族國家經驗，當前中國的「現代化」經驗對於個人與人觀中自我發展的影響。一方面，我目前的田野研究已逐漸從山居的景頗人擴展到都市的景頗人，從較老的人口到較年輕的人口。另一方面，我正在開始對英國殖民緬甸的"Indian
Office Records"進行研究。Opium
and Kachin/ Jingpo History along the Yunnan-Burma
Border from the Middle of the Nineteenth to
the Middle of the Twentieth Century計畫即是此項研究的開端。團隊研究方面，2005-2008的計畫--The
Conversion of Chieftains-Territorial Gods,
Chieftain Lineages and the Retention of
Indigenous Identity in Border Areas，即跨出此項研究的第一步。
