How to view Chinese (Big-5) WWW information on Mac

Chinese Environment on Mac

You need one of following systems to make your Mac able to display Big-5 Chinese code.
    1. Chinese System 7.1T
    2. Chinese System 7.1.1T
    3. Chinese Language Kit (CLK)
    4. MacChina 5.08K
    5. MacChina Junior T
    6. MacChina Pro T

  Both Chinese System and CLK are developed by Apple Inc.
  The CLK is a add-on software on the English version of Mac OS.
  Mac China is develped by a Taiwan Company.
  All of these are commercial products.

Edit the resource of "Mosaic"

There is a "xlat" table in the resource of "Mosaic" which translate the incoming character to internal one. Please use "ResEdit" to edit the table to make it map code from "0080" ~ "00FF" to "0080" ~ "00FF".

Change the encoding in Netscape 1.1n

If you are using Netscape 1.1N, you should set the default encoding in "Option/Preference" menu to JIS instead of "latin 1" and change the font to Chinese font.

  Font & Colors:

    For the Encoding:           Japanese
    Use the Propotional Font:   Apple LiSung Light 18
    Use the Fixed Font:         Taipei
    Default Encoding:           JIS              (The Auto Select is grayed)
