Institute of Applied Science and Engineering Research, Preparatory Office

The Preparatory Office of the Institute of Applied Science and Engineering Research (CASER) was inaugurated on June 9, 1999, with the appointment of Dr. Chen S. Tsai as the founding Director. This unit was established following numerous efforts by many academicians and administrators of Academia Sinica together with a great number of R & D leaders in industrial, governmental, and academic sectors to launch applied science and engineering research within Academia Sinica. These goals coincide with President Yuan T. Lee's aspiration to broaden the research of Academia Sinica to meet national needs.
This unit will pursue fundamental and frontier research with potential for scientific and engineering applications in collaboration with industries, government agencies and institutions, and universities.

The followin six research thrust areas hae been selected for immediate-and middle-item pursuit:

  4. Advanced Materials
  5. Internet Related Technologies
  6. Fundamental Mechanics of Modern Technology
Recruitment for qualified research staff at all levels, namely, distinguished research fellow,associate research fellow, assistant research fellow, and postdoctoral fellow are underway.
